January 2012 Runabouts to Rockets

President Larry Reid's Message

It’s time to batten down the hatches as winter is rearing it’s head now. Plan your projects, put your Oldsmobile away for the duration, and begin to budget for next year’s events. We know the routine don’t we?

One very sad note to report in this month’s message. For those who may not yet be informed, NAOC members Dean Hersey and Carol LeDoux were in a terrible accident on October 10th in Montana. They were driving one of Dean’s vintage Fords home to Boulder, Montana at about 40 mph when they were rear ended by a car driving much faster. Apparently the driver of the other car had reached for a bottle of water, became distracted for just a moment, and hit them from behind. Dean suffered injuries and was hospitalized. Unfortunately, Carol was killed instantly.

Our collective heartfelt sympathies have been expressed to Dean and Carol through a gift in her name from the NAOC. Carol was a dedicated animal lover and her family’s wish was to make a contribution to an animal shelter near her. Dean and Carol, with their two dogs, annually made the cross-country drive to the NAOC National Meet driving their 1929 F29 Six 4 door Sedan. At the Boston, nationals, they were the recipients of our Founder’s Trophy.

In last month’s issue of Runabouts to Rockets, the plan for an ad hoc committee to look into the NAOC’s financial situation was presented. Since that time the members of this committee, chaired by NAOC Vice-President Jim Schultz, have been appointed by me. They are Bud Guyer (officer), Mike Cibulas (board), Phil Fischer (board), and Judy Badgley (member). They will be researching our financial issues with the support and advisement of Paul Hartlieb (Membership Manager), Wendy Crosby (NAOC Editor/Webmaster), and Rick Winn (Treasurer). At our next national meet, which will be in Columbia, Indiana, they will present their findings for board action.

The NAOC Club Directory is in your hands, thanks to Paul Hartlieb and Wendy Crosby. The most current information that is available will be at your disposal. If you’re like me, this directory gets put to good use.

REMINDER: Directory REPLACES December issue! - Ed.
