President's Message: Larry Reid
December 2013 Runabouts to Rockets

My two terms as your NAOC President are ending at the close of 2013. I am pleased to turn the leadership of our club over to President Elect, Jim Schultz and his officers and board members. These four years have flown by as they are supposed to when you are having a good time. And, they have been good times. I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting people, car people, all over the U.S. When I attended my first national in Boone, Iowa, there wasn’t a single person that I knew. But it wasn’t long until the group “invited” me in. A very welcoming grou p, the NAOC.

Many different topics have been addressed in this column. Some, of course, are more important than others. Our monthly publication, Runabouts to Rockets, is the touchstone that binds us together. We all seem to look forward each month to the mail delivery that brings us our magazine to keep us in touch with other Oldsmobile people.

Issues such as club finances, range of model years, sites for national meets, and important people to our club have all been discussed in this column. The club is in good shape and should continue to have many more productive years. However, a club, any club, must have continuing participation and renewal from its membership. New members must be sought out and encouraged to join. The vitality of this club depends on its membership and their participation. Without our constant vigilance this club, any club, will gradually lose its relevancy.

My thanks for all the help in this leadership post would include a list too long for this final column. But, people such as Rick Winn, the consumate Oldsmobile acquirer, Bill Ehrsam, the Oldsmobile Connection and Bud Guyer, the historian and conscience of the club would have to be high on my personal list for their outstanding contributions and support.

I’ll be looking forward to meeting all of my old friends and finding some new ones at this next national meet in Carson City, Nevada and beyond.
Phil Fischer, host for the 2015 Meet informs me the dates are July 15–18, not June as previously announced. The meet will be in East Peoria, Illinois Mark your calendar!

Happy Oldsmobiling
Larry
