President's Message: Jim Schultz
October 2014 Runabouts to Rockets

Where has the time gone? As I write this month’s message from Denver I’m on the final leg of a month long trip around the USA in my 1989 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon with my four legged traveling companions Eddie and Zoey. I saw some of you at the OCA Nationals in Cincinnati, Ohio; it was a good show where the Cruiser was judged a first place.

After the show I went home to Vestal, New York to see my Mom and family plus the car that started my car “sickness”—a 1957 88 Holiday Sedan. We all have a car we can relate back to that started our interest in cars and I’m lucky to say we still have it. The car sits in my brother John’s showroom in Vestal and never moves till I get home. I took it to an enjoyable AACA Tioga Region meet in Owego in August where it took a second place in its class. I got to chat with Dick and Sue White and family at the show. The car is un-restored with original paint and interior. My Dad did the new car service on it in 1957 at Valley Motors in Endicott where he worked till 1960. I’m truly home once I get behind the wheel of this personal piece of history that we have owned since 1967. On my way back I stopped by Franklin Graf’s place a week or so after Rocketfest. He has a great collection of 1949s and a low-mileage Delorean he bought new. We stayed overnight and in the wee hours of the morning Zoey went upstairs and jumped in bed with him—to his surprise. Thank you, Franklin, for the hospitality. Look for coverage of Rocketfest in a future issue.

We are still looking for pictures of our members’ cars from 1967 to 1979 to post on the website. Send them to Wendy or myself and use the criteria set up for the front cover contest pictures. Send in your car story, pictures of an artifact and old family pictures with an Oldsmobile in it. Thank you all that have contributed so far. With winter coming back again, drive those Oldsmobiles as often as you can before hibernation is necessary.
