President's Message: Jim Schultz
February 2017 Runabouts to Rockets
Volume 36 #2
February is here—we are moving on through winter. Hopefully those that can are getting their Oldsmobiles out on occasion for a trip to the store or maybe a cruise night in the more southern locales. The Olds Club of Arizona always gets together the fourth Saturday of the month on Club Row at the Scottsdale Pavilions. I usually attend depending on the weather as we can get winter driving conditions up here in the mountains. Auction week was a couple of weeks back and hopefully I will have my annual report of the events. My tradition is to drive down in my 1968 Toronado survivor. It gets a lot of interest as it is usually the only one there at the Pavilions or the auction parking lots.
Our Facebook group page is approaching 1100 members as I write this month’s message. Those of us who are online see a lot of material posted there, some of which would be good for our magazine. If you have any material you would like to share with us in our magazine please do send it in.
On a sad note, Julie Siegrist and Sally Church passed away this fall. Skip and Sally were one of our merchandise sources for the club for many years. Sally, among others I won’t mention, was one of the reasons we had the second Prescott national meet in 2009 through the relentless pestering for me to do another one. My sincere sympathies go out to Skip and the Church family and Ron and his family.
Planning is in place for our annual national meet in Reading, PA June 21st–24th hosted by Paul Hartlieb. If you have never attended one of our national meets you are truly missing out on a memorable time unlike any other gatherings. Our club is a big family and this is our reunion so those in the east, or from anywhere, please come and bring your car. Get your entries in as soon as you can to help in the planning of this event.
Other notable Oldsmobile gatherings are the 30th Annual Arizona All Oldsmobile Show at the Scottsdale Pavilions March 25, 2017. The Olds Club of Florida will have the annual show in conjunction with Oldsmar Days April 1, 2017 at R. E. Olds Park in Oldsmar, Florida.
